Seniors report fewer psychological problems
than young
New study findings suggest that senior citizens may have more chronic medical
problems than their younger counterparts but are less likely to be depressed
or have other psychological disorders. The study, at the University of Alabama
at Birmingham, in the US, shows that 5 per cent of seniors reported having a
psychological disorder, such as depression or anxiety, in comparison to 17 per
cent of the younger patients. Younger patients also reported experiencing more
severe psychological symptoms and stressors, including worries about their
health, weight or finances. The study is reported in Psychosomatic Medicine.
